Hoy, cuando contemplamos esos impactantes paisajes en blanco y negro que forman parte de su \u00faltima serie \u201cG\u00e9nesis\u201d, se nos hace dif\u00edcil imaginarlo persiguiendo a un pol\u00edtico, o retratando la vida diaria de una ciudad.<\/p>\n<p>Pero sin duda es muy interesante, y tremendamente aleccionador para los que empiezan en \u00e9sto, saber que la fotograf\u00eda es un largo camino de aprendizaje, y de duro trabajo, cuando lo conviertes en una profesi\u00f3n. Y que muchos de los que hoy tenemos como grandes nombres de la fotograf\u00eda, fueron progresando en el oficio, trabajando como fotoperiodistas de calle, fot\u00f3grafos de bodas, o realizando sencillas im\u00e1genes de carnet, como en el caso de Richard Avedon para la Marina de los Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n<p>Quien no lo entienda, quien no est\u00e9 dispuesto a realizar ese \u201cotro tipo de fotograf\u00edas\u201d, o quien piense que se puede saltar de la nada a las p\u00e1ginas del National Geographic o Time y\/o subsistir mientras tanto, mejor que no intent\u00e9 dedicarse a ser fot\u00f3grafo como trabajo.<\/p>\n<p>Corr\u00eda el a\u00f1o 1981 cuando Sebasti\u00e3o Salgado, curtido en largos a\u00f1os de trabajo de agencia, ya formando parte de Magnum, y por encargo del <strong>New York Times<\/strong>, estaba trabajando en un reportaje sobre los 100 primeros d\u00edas de <strong>Ronald Reagan<\/strong> en el cargo de presidente de los Estados Unidos. Pero el d\u00eda 30 de Marzo de 1981, que se presentaba como uno m\u00e1s dentro de este seguimiento, ocurri\u00f3 algo inesperado.<\/p>\n<p>Reagan sufri\u00f3 un <strong>atentado<\/strong> a la salida del <strong>Washington Hilton Hotel<\/strong>, a manos de un hombre llamado <strong>John Hinckley Jr.<\/strong>, del que sali\u00f3 ileso. Y Salgado estaba all\u00ed para inmortalizarlo.
